Annual Audits & AFIR

The Town is required by North Carolina General Statutes to undergo an annual independent audit.  The audit is conducted by an independent Certified Public Accounting and basic annual financial statements are prepared that include any findings, if applicable.

Municipalities can take it a step further and prepare an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) to obtain the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) award for the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (COA); although, not required. This report includes the auditor’s report, Town’s financial trends, revenue and debt capacity, demographic and economic information, and other operating statistics.
