The proposed project will add one express lane in each direction on I-485 between I-77 and U.S. 74 (Independence Boulevard). The proposed improvements will provide travel time reliability and improve traffic flows on this critical transportation corridor. This project will serve as part of a larger network of express lanes to offer drivers traffic choice - pay a fee and ride in the express lanes to avoid traffic delays or continue driving in the general purpose lanes for free.

NCDOT representatives will be available in an informal, open house style setting to answer questions and gather public input regarding the proposed projects during the open house hours. The same information and maps will be available at all meetings. The public is urged to share their ideas, thoughts and suggestions with department staff. The opportunity to submit written comments or questions will be provided and is encouraged.

The formal presentations will include an explanation of the location and design of the project. Information about the state-federal relationship, right of way requirements and procedures that will be part of the project will also be discussed. Citizens will have the opportunity to comment or ask questions. The presentation and comments will be recorded with a transcript developed.
